Simple challenge pays dividends for Cache nine
You'd figure Ryan Whiteley said some pretty powerful stuff to his players in the hours between late last Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
Turns out the Cache baseball coach just issued them a simple challenge.
"We came together and set a goal that we needed to be 4-2 (for the week)," Whiteley recounted of his advice for players after their 11-2 loss at Clinton a week ago.
The 15th-ranked Bulldogs went a step further, going 5-0 after the setback. Tuesday, it was an upset over No. 3 Weatherford. Then came four-straight wins and a first-place finish in the Washita Valley Classic at Chickasha.
Cache knocked off Class 5A teams Bishop McGuinness and Noble, toppling the latter in a 7-6, come-from-behind win in the Washita finals.
Safe to say Whiteley may be setting more goals for his team, if this is the result.
"They took (the challenge) and went above and beyond. Didn't lose a game after (Clinton). It says a lot about them as a team being able to respond the way they did," the coach said.
