Saying farewell to Lawton
I didn’t know what to think about Lawton when I moved here in May 2017.
Living in the Oklahoma City area for most of life, the only things I heard about Southwest Oklahoma’s largest city were mainly negative. Even when I told friends where I was heading after graduating from Oklahoma State, they gave me a puzzled look.
None of them understood why I would move to what Lawton outsiders essentially considered the crime capitol of the state.
“It’s called the Shady 580 for a reason,” they’d tell me.
