Get ready, Southwest Oklahoma rodeo fans, the 81st Annual Lawton Rangers Rodeo opens tonight and the greatest PRCA bull rider of this era – Sage Kimzey – is coming to town to make this the greatest deal in all of rodeo.
So, just who is Sage Kimzey? Kimzey is the son of former rodeo barrelman/clown Ted Kimzey and he’s climbed to the top of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association charts by winning the past five bull riding championships.
The Strong City cowboy is back at the top of the world standings again this season with $155,514 in earnings but he’s getting stiff competition from Stetson Wright who has earned $151,109.
Tonight Kimzey will try to set the early lead on Nathan, one of the top bulls from the DH Page/Powder River herd that is being used as one of the sub-contractors for the Rangers Rodeo.
But there is another good matchup tonight and that has Tyler Bingham paired with Top Shelf from the DH/Powder River pen of top bulls. Bingham, from Honeyville, Utah, is currently fourth in the world standings with earnings of $110,060 and while he’s solid to make the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, a couple of big checks this week could sure help his title chances.
And don’t forget Kimzey’s younger brother Trey, who is scheduled to ride Lifting Lives from the DH/Powder River herd. Lawton is also huge for Trey Kimzey since he’s climbed to 13th in the world standings and on course to join his brother at the National Finals Rodeo in December in Las Vegas.
