RollerGirls drop first bout
Lawton's 580 RollerGirls got the 2014 season off to a rough start as the ultra-physical ICT All Stars won Saturday night's "Battle of the Beaties," 248-98.
The Kansas squad rolled into the Great Plains Coliseum with a size and numbers advantage. ICT took the lead from the first jam, but 580 fought back to goup 20-16 the last lead before the tide turned. Lawton remained close until a 24 point jam by the visitors took things to a new level. By the half, 580 trailed, 119-57. ICT kept the lead to the end for the 248-98 win.
"Tonight was the opening bout of the season," said Erin "Dublin D'Pain" Cooper, team spokesperson. "580 started the night with only eight skaters due to the injured list and ICT came from Kansas with an all-star roster."
Molly Meet Your Maker, Scarlet Johatchet, Elle Beau Macaroni and original RollerGirl Cocoa Thunder donned the pink helmet cover to try and score jammer points but the Kansas crew were a tough group to skate through. When Okie Choke was escorted from he game near the end of the second period, the already weary Lawton team were battling on tired legs.
