MacArthur’s Kameron Fisher slides safely into third base as Lawton High School left fielder Jessica Flynn tries to grab the throw from first baseman Lexie Tahsequah. Fisher was trying to go from first to third on a ground out but when the throw got past Flynn, the speedy Highlander jumped up and trotted home for Mac’s opening run in the first inning at David Tyler Park at Lawton High. MacArthur first baseman Kerrigan Thorne goes high to try and grab this wild throw from Mac’s catcher but it didn’t matter because the LHS batter, Madaja Riles (6) was called out when the ball bounced up and hit her while she was out of the batter’s box. LHS struggled defensively in the game and MacArthur took full advantage, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 victory. MacArthur will return to action next Monday when it visits Del City for a district contest.

Mac takes advantage of LHS errors

Thorne’s two-run single propels Highlanders to intracity win

Teams that are going to face MacArthur's softball team better be prepared to field the bunt because when the Highlanders get on base, expect Coach Dusty Ketner to challenge his opponents and last night it was Lawton High facing that test and the grade wasn't passing.

In one inning alone  the sixth  the Wolverines committed five errors, opening the floodgates and sparking Mac to a 5-2 victory at David Tyler Park on the campus of LHS.

"We lost some really good bats to graduation, so we're going to have to manufacture some runs this year," Ketner said. "Ariel (pitcher Enzenauer) throws it pretty well but she's not going to overpower people. And with us not scoring as many runs, we've got to play good defense and not let teams have big innings."

That was the same plan that LHS Coach Kyle Brierton was hoping to use but his players just didn't execute as well as the Highlanders.

"We're just struggling to find our nine," Brierton said. "We've been moving people around trying to find somebody to fill the gaps but it just hasn't worked out like we had hoped. Mindi (pitcher Sherran) does a pretty good job but she's not going to overpower hitters, so when they hit the ball we've got to make plays.

"There in the sixth inning we made five errors and that is too many against a good club. Mac is always tough and they have good speed and we got a little anxious there on some of those bunts and just didn't field the ball cleanly and against them. It's a problem. The bottom line is we just made too many mistakes."
