Mac girls forces 44 turnovers, rout Western Heights, 83-23

MacArthur coach Otis Gentry wanted aggressive defensive play for his team, and he wasn’t disappointed with the effort he received.

The Lady Highlanders had more points in the first quarter than Western Heights managed the entire game, forcing 44 turnovers on the way to an 83-23 home win in the first round of the Class 5A regional playoffs on Thursday night.

It was Mac’s highest-scoring game of the season, eclipsing the squad’s 75 points against OKC Storm in the Altus Shortgrass Classic on Jan. 25.

The Lady Jets finish the season with a 7-16 record.

Mac (14-7) will play El Reno at 2p.m. on Saturday for the Regional 2 championship. The Lady Indians, who are tied at No. 10 with Mac in the Class 5A rankings, ended Del City’s season earlier in the afternoon, 86-61.

It will be the second matchup between the teams this season, with the Lady Highlanders winning the first meeting in a 58-51 decision during the Anadarko MidFirst Warrior Classic on Jan. 10.
