Local football teams primed for scrimmages; Mac hosting LHS in volleyball showdown
It might not be the official first week of the high school football season but whenever scrimmages arrive players, coaches and fans know the real thing isn't far away.
The city football scrimmage schedule starts tonight with MacArthur hosting Oklahoma City McGuinness at 6 p.m. at Cameron Stadium. The younger players will start the event around 4 p.m. with the freshmen, followed by the junior varsity players around 5 p.m.
Coming up Friday both Eisenhower and Lawton High will conduct scrimmages, only they will be under totally different conditions. Ike will make the drive to Anadarko to battle the 4A powerhouse Warriors. The varsity scrimmage should start around 7 p.m., but that depends on how long the junior varsity teams will work out.
For Lawton High there is no opponent this week as the Wolverines will instead have to conduct a Red-White scrimmage starting at 4 p.m. at Cameron Stadium. The freshmen will work first, followed by the junior varsity and then the varsity crew will go last. While head coach Randy Breeze said the Wolverines are planning a "spirited" scrimmage, don't expect too much contact with the first units. The scrimmage is being used mostly to evaluate the players LHS is counting on to provide depth.
