Kephart ready to take next step by coaching Cache
You can't keep people like Brandon Kephart away from basketball.
The 33-year-old, still the all-time leading scorer at MacArthur, played for two different universities before a three-year pro career overseas, followed by one season of ABA ball with the Arkansas Aeros. Even now, Kephart's attendance in local men's leagues is impeccable.
And sometimes his mind still drifts to those Aeros, the promise they had.
"We were No. 1 in our division heading into the playoffs," Kephart remembered. "Then somehow we folded."
Kephart's ambition after his playing career, like most savvy guards, shifted to coaching. He wanted a group of his own players, ones he could steer toward success not by hand, but by clipboard.
That became a reality last Thursday when Kephart landed his first head-coaching job. Cache announced him as the replacement for Zach Ange, who resigned last month to be with his fiancé as she attends graduate school in Tulsa.
