Ike football plans to be exciting
Newly hired Eisenhower head football coach Danny Edelman plans to play an exciting brand of football next season.
He wants an uptempo, no-huddle offense with a new play run every 15 seconds and a defense built around aggressiveness, not to mention trendy new uniforms chosen by the players that will likely include chrome helmets.
"We're a spread offense that wants to put the defense in as many awkward situations as we can," he said. "We want to get the ball up and down the field and attack defenses from the standpoint of the worst nightmares a defensive coordinator can have."
But before all the flair comes substance that will rise from a strong foundation that has to be laid first, the veteran coach said after a recent spring practice.
"The primary thing for us to accomplish right now is good technique and fundamentals. That's what we've been focused on mostly, is fundamentals relative to our scheme," he said of spring goals. "Football definitely goes back to the basic ideas of being able to block and tackle."
Which for a high-energy, hands-on coach like Edelman means picking up the pace and cramming as much as possible into each day.
