Goodyear, All-Army team split softball slugfest doubleheader
On Tuesday evening, Goodyear hosted its Softball Classic featuring the All-Army team, which will soon head to the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla.
Tuesday’s doubleheader — one of the final tune-ups before their departure — resulted in a split, but the nightcap turned into a slugfest for the ages, with the Goodyear-Lawton Community team outlasting the All-Army team, 46-43.
The All-Army team defeated the Goodyear employees in the first game before they watched a 17-4 lead slip away in the second game of the doubleheader. Eventually, Goodyear erased its 13-run deficit and tied the game at 40 entering the top of the seventh inning. Goodyear scored six runs in the top half of the inning before limiting the All-Army team to just three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 46-43 victory.
The Armed Forces competition in Florida will include the U.S. Marine Corps., U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. The talent-laden All-Army team has dominated this competition recently by winning six out of the last seven Armed Forces tournaments.
