Flucas working on budding music career
When Elgin High School senior Darren Flucas isn’t pushing opposing players off the line of scrimmage, he is working on producing a new song. The senior offensive tackle and defensive end said he has already had a number of songs produced that feature his singing talents and he said he hopes to add more songs in the near future.
Flucas said one of his loves is creating his own music and he said the feedback he has gotten on his work is very promising.
“When people hear me sing they are surprised,” he said. “They really can’t believe the voice is coming from me.”
Flucas said he gets a lot of his musical tastes from his father and noted that most of his work is R&B styled music, reminiscent of 1990s R&B music. He said though he is currently working on a heavy metal song with a friend of his.
“I am really into a variety of different music,” Flucas said.
While Flucas said he would love to continue to develop his musical career he said his current career goals are to attend college and study business, with an eye towards a military career as an officer. Flucas said his plans are to eventually attend officer candidate school and he feels that a business and management focus in college will help him with his leadership skills.
Flucas comes from a military family. Prior to moving to Oklahoma he said his father was stationed in Hawaii. In fact it was his father that pushed Flucas into football in Hawaii where he played as a center.
“It is different in Hawaii, there they separate the JV and varsity teams,” he said. “Often you never even really see the varsity guys.”
