Eagles lose despite Gordon’s 43-point outburst; girls also fall to PC North
The opportunity was there for Antonio Gordon.
With 3.8 seconds remaining, the Kansas State signee stood at the free-throw line for his third shot after being fouled while shooting a 3-pointer that would’ve tied the game.
He’d been nothing less than stellar all night, finishing with 43 points, and he sunk his first two shots to make it a one-point game. But on Friday night at the MacArthur gym, Gordon wasn’t destined to be Eisenhower’s savior.
After being rescheduled twice, the game was played at the eastside school because of construction issues near Ike’s campus.
Gordon’s free shot rolled around the rim for what seemed like an eternity before finally bouncing off the right side of the rim, allowing Putnam City North – the defending Class 6A champion — to escape with a thrilling 84-83 win in overtime.
