CU men eye important golf tourney
GOODYEAR, Ariz. Cameron University men's golf coach Jerry Hrnciar didn't mince words when talking about the importance of the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate golf tournament that his Aggies will be competing in this week.
"We have our work cut out for us," Hrnciar said. "We won last week in Austin, Texas but we didn't move up in the regional rankings as much as we had hoped. We need to do well here and next week at the Arkansas-Fort Smith tournament to be better positioned for the postseason."
In fact, Hrnciar said it's imperative that the Aggies finish in the top five of not only this tournament but another one next week in Arkansas.
The WNMU Mustang Intercollegiate will be a 54-hole tournament held at the Palm Valley Golf Course. It will consist of a tough field of 20 teams, including eight of the top-15 teams in the region; Cameron is ranked No. 15.
Hrnciar will be sticking with a most of the lineup that took home the tournament championship at STEU last week, as Daniel Nielsen, Will Lovelace, Dario Gabriel, Niels Sorensen, Devin Tovey, and Weston Ward will all be on the course this week.
