Comanche County tourney stories loom everywhere
Bill Hunt sauntered into the Municipal Golf Course pro shop Monday with one of those ‘the rest of the story’ queries.
“I enjoyed reading your Sunday story about the (Comanche) county tournament,” the old coach said. “But you left out my favorite game.”
And that was:
“In 1985. Cache and Indiahoma girls. 18 to 16.”
Close. It was 25-23, Cache, in overtime.
After explaining that the Sunday piece primarily focused on tourneys that were played in years ending in ‘9’, we give the ‘85 classic its due.
The Indiahoma coach was Don Chancellor. ‘Sonny Boy’ was one of the area’s top mentors during the 6 on 6 era of girls basketball and he would use any tactic at his disposal to give his team a chance to win.
