Cameron teams drop home twinbill
Scrappy Western New Mexico took advantage of a frigid Cameron start and fought off the Aggies for a 67-64 Lone Star Conference women’s basketball victory Thursday in the CU gym.
The Mustangs used turnovers and free throws to earn an 11-point lead late in the third quarter. Cameron closed that deficit to two points twice in the final 95 seconds but couldn’t complete the comeback.
The loss leaves CU with a 4-9 overall record and a 1-4 league mark. Western improves to 6-6 and 2-3.
Major differences were Western’s 18-9 advantage in points off 19 Cameron turnovers and a 22-14 free throw cushion. The Silver City crew also owned a 32-24 edge on points in the paint.
