Cameron basketball teams host WNMU today

Something must give today when Cameron hosts Western New Mexico for a Lone Star Conference basketball doubleheader.

The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. and in that contest it will be the Aggies, who lead the Lone Star in three-point shooting, going against the Mustangs who are the best team in the conference when it comes to stopping those deep bombs.

And something will give when the men’s teams tangle around 7:30 p.m. since both are winless in conference action and the winner will take a big first step toward getting back into the conference tournament picture.

Here is a look at both games:

Battese eyes program record

While the overall focus for the Cameron women will be to improve on their 1-3 conference record, for junior guard Ava Battese, there is an interesting subplot as she needs just four more treys to break the Cameron career record. Battese, who played prep ball at Elgin, has helped the Aggies climb to No. 3 in Division II for three-point field goals made per game with 10.3 per contest.

Conversely, Western is first in the conference and ninth nationally in three-point defense, holding opponents to just 25.3 percent from long range.
