Aggies survive pair of elimination games in South Central Regional
COMMERCE, Texas — Survive and advance was the name of the game Friday and the Cameron softball team did just that as the Aggies squeaked out a pair of victories in elimination games to advance to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional finals for the second straight season.
Cameron first beat Dixie State, 5-4, to end the Trailblazers’ season before the Aggies finally avenged their losses to Tarleton State, by beating the third-seeded and 19th-ranked TexAnns, 7-5.
The win over Tarleton State turned out to be a milestone victory for Cameron softball coach Dennis Furr’s 100th win in his three seasons at the helm of the Aggies.
Cameron has lived to fight another day and now must take down a giant — the host school, second-seeded and No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce — today at noon. A&M-Commerce has yet to lose in the double-elimination regional, which means Cameron must defeat the Lions twice. First pitch of the first game is at noon and the “if game” will follow.
