OHAI providing health courses for older adults

The Westminster Presybterian Church and the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative are collaborating to provide two more classes for older adults, their family members and their caregivers.

The first class is DEEP, Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, which will begin Tuesday, April 24 and be held until Tuesday, May 29 at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 7110 W. Gore in Lawton.

This is a six-week class based on the principles of empowerment and education. Participants will learn the importance of a healthy diet, physical activity and maintaining a positive attitude.

The second class will be Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance. Tai Chi is designed to improve the core muscle strength and balance of older adults who want to maintain or improve their quality of life. This twice-a-week, six-week program focuses on building confidence and preventing falls.

The Tai Chi class will be held from 10-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning June 11 and ending July 18.
