Local woman runs for cancer survivors and those lost
Cassie Jones pushes through another mile. Her feet pounding the pavement that makes up the path of Lawton’s annual Spirit of Survival. She breathes, runs, breathes, runs. Another mile begins and she thinks of a student who was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia the week after school started.
“She was in fourth grade at the time,” Jones said. “... When I got to the mile I dedicated to my student, I focused hard on praying for her health, her strength and her resolve. I prayed for the doctors and nurses who were treating her. And I prayed for her mother, brother and grandmother.
