Student takes state in speech competition
Nyla Williams is not your typical teenager. Williams just received a 1st place honor for participating in the Oklahoma Speech Theatre Communication Association’s contest.
Williams is a junior at Lawton Academy of Arts and Science and recently achieved the honor. The last honor for the category was won 11 years ago.
“There were 20 qualifying competitors, another level and then they pick the top six,” Michelle Smith, of the school said. “My daughter was the last student to place number one in the state in the speech category and that was 11 years ago.”
