Keck, VFW to host event in support of veterans

A local musician is hoping music can make things better for military members past and present.

George Keck, drummer for Jelibred and Mad Leon and a military veteran, is providing the P.A. and microphones for an open mic/jam band/singing, drumming, guitar, bass, keyboard and P.A. set-up lessons  "Whatever you want to call it"  for a Sunday afternoon event at VFW Post 5263, 103 NE 20th. The VFW Jam will be from 1-5 p.m. It's free to attend and participate. Another event will be the same time March 18.

"I'm trying out a concept at my VFW to help wounded warriors/vets/active duty cope with anything they have going on inside their heads," Keck said. "I've always believed that music heals and playing music helps to heal faster."

The longtime percussionist will be offering the drum lessons and P.A. tutorial. Keck said some of his bandmates as well as from Spell and NDN TYMZ will be joined by special guests.

"I can use part-time guitar, bass, and keyboard players/instructors," Keck said. "I guess the most important thing is that it's free to attend and the lessons are free."
