Apache Balloon Fest prepares to take flight for second year
Barring any Oklahoma winds that might come sweeping down the plains this month, Apache Casino Hotel is preparing to launch its second Apache Balloon Fest.
Last year, at the inaugural balloon fest, 20 balloons and their pilots took to the festival grounds outside of the Apache Casino Hotel in a days long, family-friendly event with live music, food and other attractions.
“The tribe is excited about doing the second ballon festival,” Lee Bayless, Event Center Manager for the Apache Casino Hotel, said. “Lynn Ray, our General Manager, he was a big deciding factor in getting that balloon festival back up and approved this year. Management is behind us 110 percent, the festival was a huge success for us last year in many different ways.”
This year’s festival will host the same number of balloons as last year, and will feature tethered rides, sky rides and nightly balloon glows.
Tethered balloon rides will take place starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and will cost $15 for kids 11 and under and $20 for anyone 12 and up. Kids 11 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Nightly balloon glows, during which the pilot opens up the burner on the balloon while it is grounded, will begin around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening and are free to attend. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Balloon glows last around 45 minutes.
