US is ruled by court decisions and executive orders, not laws
For the last three weeks, I have been unable to follow national news without hearing some political pundit declare that Roe v. Wade “has been the law of the land for 40 years.” Roe v. Wade is not a law. Perhaps it should be a law, but it is not a law. It is a court decision.
For three decades, the United States has been ruled less by laws and more by court rulings and executive orders. Our founders intended laws to be the result of legislative action, not the collateral effects of judicial fiat or presidential decree.
I do not blame our Supreme Court or our President. Nature abhors a vacuum. What our Congress fails to do, someone else will. Only American citizens acting as knowledgeable voters electing responsible legislators will change this present state of affairs.
