Great response to establishing Elvis Day
In response to the article about making Aug. 16 Elvis Day, I have had tremendous results! Probably the best results in my 18 years of starting Lawton Elvis Friends.
First of all, may I say that at this writing, Elvis is No. 1 on the gospel charts with "Where No One Stands Alone,” a duet with his daughter, Lisa Marie. After 40 years, Elvis is still popular and still the King.
Locally, I have gained 191 members to Lawton Elvis Friends. I have had responses from India, Africa, Russia, Canada and Mexico.
Although Elvis died Aug. 16, 1977, in a way, it brought a lot of friends together. Because of Elvis, it is still a day of joy that friends can share memories. I'm not much an Elvis collector but I'm a real deal/true blue fan! Can you set a price on memories?
Very humbly, I went to my mailbox and people gave me scrapbooks and books and telling me how happy Elvis made them and helped them get through life. As president, I have to say that is such a great honor for someone to pass down their memories to me. They share that family don't share their joy! I do understand!
