New home construction shows upturn
A modest upturn in new home construction activity pushed the value of Lawton building permits past $3.5 million in August.
The city issued permits for seven new single-family homes valued at $1.75 million last month. While it’s not a bumper crop, it is the largest monthly total of the year. Five of the homes are in east Lawton and two in west Lawton.
The largest commercial permit issued in August, valued at $500,000, was for remodeling of the McDonald’s restaurant at No. 1 NW 67th. The work will include reworking the driveway and upgrading the interior and some of the exterior of the 5,164-square foot restaurant.
The city issued three permits totaling $263,000 for work at Stoneridge Center, 2412 Cache Road. The work includes replacement of sections of the parking, remodeling for a Mathis Brothers mattress store and remodeling for a finance company.
The opening of the new Dollar Tree store at 4515 E. Lee approaches with at $179,500 permit to complete the interior of the 9,896-square-foot building.
