Dr. Nolan welcomed as surgeon at center
Southwestern Medical Center has welcomed board-certified orthopedic surgeon Betsy Nolan, M.D., to its medical staff.
Nolan received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas; completed her residency at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center in Los Angeles; and completed shoulder and elbow fellowships under the direction of Dr. Christian Gerber at the University of Zurich in Switzerland and Dr. J. Michael Wiater at the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich.
She is president-elect of the Orthopedic Society of Oklahoma and president of the Association of VA Orthopedic Surgeons.
Her clinical interests include problems affecting the shoulder and elbow, with a special interest in complex problems. The combination of the European and American fellowships give her extensive training in newer techniques and implants in shoulder and elbow surgery, the hospital said, including reverse total shoulder replacement, which has been performed in Europe for over 20 years but received FDA approval for use in the United States only in 2004.
