Beltone Hearing Aid Center opens

Thanks in part to an established need in the Lawton area for hearing care services, a new Beltone Hearing Aid Center opened Tuesday at 2319 W. Gore.

Hearing Care Practitioner Logan Hayes said he was working out of an office in south Oklahoma City, but Beltone had an interest in opening a center in the Lawton area.

“They (Beltone) kind of reached out to me to see if I would be willing to open this (Lawton) office,” he said.

Hayes said from the moment he started working in Lawton he has met a lot of good people in the community.

“We are very excited about this office,” he said noting that some aspects of Lawton remind him of his youth growing up north of Enid. “There are a lot of good old fashioned down-to-earth people here in Lawton.”

Hayes said the new office offers free hearing evaluations for those 18 years of age or older. He said parental consent, with a note from the patient’s doctor, is required for anyone under 18.

He said the evaluations are in-depth and generally take around an hour and a half, during which time several tests are conducted to determine whether the patient is suffering from hearing loss and how severe such loss may be.

He said he uses an audiometer to test hearing, which effectively breaks down speech into frequency that Hayes can then use to determine the severity of any hearing loss and where such loss may be occurring.
