Refuge gates stay open, but options limited with shutdown
The recent government shutdown has already had a staggering effect on government-funded entities like the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

The visitor’s center is closed and there are no staff members to answer phones. Likewise, the Nature Store is closed, because although operated by non-federal employees, the building they are located in is closed.
