REAP grants to provide $1.14 million in funding to rural communities, counties
The Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments will fund 22 projects across Southwest Oklahoma for a total of $1,146,739 in Rural Economic Action Plan Grants.
The annual program awards small towns and counties in rural Oklahoma with funds to help complete projects that are needed, but for which they don’t have the money. The funding issued through the REAP program is provided by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
Tom Zigler, director of community and economic development for ASCOG, said this year’s REAP grant award total is higher than past years because the agency was able to put additional funds in an account last year to accrue some interest until the next grant period. That decision allowed the agency to help more communities in need.
