Pumpkins-a-plenty this season at Jahn’s Pumpkin Hill
CYRIL — It’s pumpkin season in Southwest Oklahoma and that means Jahn’s Pumpkin Hill is ready to entertain visitors this autumn.
It still might feel like July, but the calendar reads October. While the boots and scarves might have to wait, the pumpkins have arrived in Caddo County — along with plenty of opportunities for seasonal fun. Merry Jahn, owner of Jahn’s Pumpkin Hill, said this year is already off to a great start.
“We have lots of field trips booked,” she said. “They’re coming in and we’re praying it doesn’t rain like it did this last year. That doesn’t seem to be an issue this year. We’re now glad to see the temperatures are finally going down.”
The sprawling agriculture attraction is located just outside of Cyril. When families and classes arrived, they’re greeted by Jahn and members of her family who take them on a tractor-pulled tour of the entire operation. Jahn wants to ensure kids take home a little extra knowledge with them, along with their pumpkin, when they leave at the end of the day.
“That’s my 10 minutes to try to educate them on everything from Jeff Rock to grass to Comanches and wheat and cattle and everything like that,” she said. “It’s 10 minutes to give them a little bit of rural Oklahoma and production agriculture because it’s all shared by them.”
When the tour comes to an end, kids and their families are let off in the play area near the pumpkin patch. They get to interact with barn animals, like sheep, goats and even pigs. They can purchase food to hand-feed the animals and learn more about them.
