Inattentive driving blamed for Friday wreck

A 34-year-old Wichita Falls, Texas, man was hospitalized following a Friday morning wreck south of Fletcher on Interstate 44.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Dustin L. Bacon was flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in good condition with leg injuries.

Bacon was driving a GMC Yukon northbound on the interstate shortly after 11 a.m. when, due to driver inattention, the SUV went off the roadway to the right and traveled up the embankment of the overpass and struck the underside of the bridge, Trooper Michael Brady reported. Following impact of the bridge, the truck landed on its driver side, pinning Bacon inside for about 1 ½-hour until he was freed by Fletcher firefighters using the Jaws of Life tool.
