Grandfield man injured in wreck

A fiery wreck Tuesday afternoon sent a Grandfield man to a Wichita Falls, Texas, hospital in critical condition, and caused Interstate 44 traffic to be stopped in Cotton County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Andrew Dale Brown, 25, was flown to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls where he was admitted in critical condition with head and internal trunk injuries.

Brown was driving a Chevrolet pickup southbound on the Interstate shortly before 2 p.m. when he went off the roadway to the right, struck and embankment and continued off the roadway until striking a bridge abutment and coming to rest, Trooper Forrest White reported. The truck caught fire and, coupled with the 45 minute effort by responders to remove Brown from the wreck and be loaded for air transport, caused both lanes of traffic to be shut down until shortly after 3 p.m.
