Bond set at $250,000 in Altus murder case

ALTUS  Bond has been set at $250,000 for an Altus man accused of killing his ex-wife in 2001.

Garland Paul Allen appeared Tuesday in Jackson County District Court charged with second-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of Tracy Lynn Allen from her Altus home in May 2001. He was arrested in Wise County, Texas, Dec. 2 and extradited to Jackson County. Upon his return, Allen led authorities to a wooded campsite near the north shore of Tom Steed Reservoir where he said he buried his ex-wife's remains, authorities said.

The bond was set with conditions: He agrees to live with his mother in Lone Wolf; will not leave the Third Judicial District of Oklahoma unless granted permission by the court; and will not contact any witnesses in the case except his mother and children and will not discuss the case with them. Allen was also told he must hire legal counsel  prepared to represent him at his preliminary hearing March 31.
