75 years in, Carnegie domino tournament pushes forward
CARNEGIE — Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones may not hold the sway they once did, but there’s still plenty to draw during the World Championship Domino Tournament in Carnegie.
The tournament that once drew more than 100 teams returns for its 75th anniversary this year. For three-quarters of a century, Carnegie has hosted some of the best players in the region for an intense domino tournament that would last well into the night.
Orval Williams, Carnegie Chamber of Commerce President, was there during those heydays. He remembers the tournaments that lasted until midnight in a duel of wits between talented teams. Despite the drop in attendance, he said there’s still great competition to be admired each year. And with the 75th anniversary celebration, this year’s tournament could provide even more entertainment.
