Wolverines strike late, roll to road win at Burk
BURKBURNETT, Texas-It’s hard to find much upsetting after earning a 56-21 victory but when Lawton High coach Ryan Breeze had time to discuss the wild win, he was more concerned about five turnovers.
Those five turnovers kept the Bulldogs in the game and they made the Wolverines pay after just about each of those mistakes.
“You can’t make five turnovers in a half and have much success,” Breeze said after the wild victory. “They were just bad mistakes; things we have to eliminate.”
But late in the game the Wolverines got their high-powered offense going, churning out huge chunks of yardage as the LHS line simply took over the game and running backs Christian Houston and Devin Simpson started taking the fight to the hosts.
A Demarcus Andrews touchdown run on an end around with 4:22 left in the third quarter and a PAT by Joseph Kim helped arrange a 22-21 LHS lead.
Then it was the Wolverines’ turn to force a turnover and when Albert Baker stepped in front of a Burk pass and returned it deep in enemy territory, Houston made it count with a 4-yard run for a 29-21 lead after another Kim PAT.
