Outlaws fall to Atoka, 5-4, in state championship game

Nursing a one run lead heading into the seventh inning, the Marlow baseball team was only three outs away from a state title.

That coveted state championship will have to wait.

Nolan Burrage blasted a two-run double off the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark wall in Oklahoma City to give Atoka a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning on Saturday afternoon, which then put pressure on the Marlow bats to come through in the clutch.

Despite scoring double-digit runs in their quarterfinal and semifinal victories, the Outlaws could not plate a run when they needed it most as Marlow lost the Class 3A state championship game, 5-4, finishing runner-up and 28-8 overall.

Kaden Wilson’s 2-run single gave Marlow a 2-0 lead after one inning.

A Marlow error and two passed balls gifted Atoka (30-5) a few runs to pull in front of the Outlaws, 3-2 through two and a half innings.
