Match play loss dooms Dalke's bid in Jr. Amateur
WOODLANDS, Texas Hobart's Brad Dalke saw his hopes for the title in the USGA Junior Amateur go down the drain Wednesday when he lost a tough 3 and 2 decision to Anton Serafini of Lake Mary, Fla., in the first round of match play.
Dalke, one of the highest ranked junior golfers in the world, was solid during two rounds of qualifying at The Club at Carlton Woods (Nicklaus Course) by shooting rounds of 69-72 for a 141 total, 3-under-par.
That put him in a six-player deadlock for ninth place, but when the seeds were listed, he wound up as the 13th seed. The top score in qualifying were 7-under-par 137s by Sean Crocker of Zimbabwe and Sam Horsfield of England.
Because of the high seed, Dalke then drew a much lower seed for the first round of match play, but even though Serafini was seeded 52, the Florida golfer was dominating at times Wednesday and earned the win.
