Junior PGA halted by weather; Dalke in 3rd
BRYAN, Texas Whatever move Brad Dalke hoped to make Thursday at the Junior PGA Championship will instead have to be made today.
The Hobart resident was on the 11th hole at about 5:30 p.m. central time when play was suspended due to inclement weather at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
Dalke was at even par for his round and 3 under (third place) for the tournament when play was halted. He trailed by five shots to Gordon Neale, a Southern Methodist University commit from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., who led the tournament at 8 under, after shooting 2 under through 11 holes Thursday.
The third round will resume at 8 a.m. today, with the final round tentatively scheduled to start at 11:20 a.m. Conditions at Miramont are expected to dry out, with partly cloudy skies and a high temperature near 88.
Dalke is the third player in the final group, along with Sam Burns of Shreveport, La., who was 2 under through 11 holes in the third round and 6-under for the tournament.
Perhaps the poor weather came at an opportune time for Dalke, who went from making a strong move toward the lead to getting caught in a rough stretch near the turn Thursday.
Though he started strong he got to 5 under for the tournament with birdies on two of the first three holes the University of Oklahoma commit made three straight bogeys on holes eight through 10. He rebounded with a birdie on the 190-yard par-3 11th a hole he double-bogeyed Wednesday just before play was called due to weather.
