Fort Cobb girls upset Cyril in Caddo finals
ANADARKO — Leave it to a rival to make sure its nemesis doesn’t get crowned county champions for the fourth year in a row.
After finishing runner-up to Cyril twice in the past four years, the Fort Cobb-Broxton girls ended the Pirates’ reign at three years by erasing a double-digit deficit and storming back for a 37-34 victory to be crowned Caddo County Tournament champions.
Aloni Taylor, who scored eight points, saved the Mustangs by coming up with a block under the hoop in a two-point game with eight seconds remaining after her teammates clumsily collided on an inbounds pass and gave the ball back to Cyril in a mad scramble.
“Aloni is my first freshman I’ve coached all the way through and we wanted to win the County Tournament since day one so it’s so awesome she’s the one who made that play at the end to help push us through,” Fort Cobb coach Blake Clift said. “I’ve been preaching to them we have to do whatever it takes to win.”
