Fifth inning dooms Duncan in 7-5 loss to Coweta in state tournament opener
BROKEN ARROW — After Carson Kinnaird blasted a solo homer over the left-field wall, Duncan appeared to be well on its way to a berth in the Class 5A semifinals.
Then the fifth inning happened.
Coweta rallied from a 3-0 deficit behind a grand slam from Reid Stockman, sending the Demons home with a heartbreaking 7-5 loss in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament at Broken Arrow High School on Thursday night.
Duncan finished the season with a 28-10 record and a district championship. The Tigers (24-10) play Pryor today at 1:30 p.m. for the right to play for the state title at ONEOK Field in Tulsa on Saturday. Pryor defeated Piedmont, 4-2, in the opening round.
