Elgin takes tough doubleheader from Altus

Elgin girls learned another valuable lesson Friday; when you are one of the top-ranked teams in any class, you better have your A game most nights or you could stumble.

The No. 2-ranked Owls found that out in the first half against a quickly-improving Altus club that played lights out in the first half to forge a 34-25 halftime lead. But coach Jarrod Jones got his troops together at the break, talked about intensity on both ends of the floor and the Owls were able to bring home an important 67-62 victory.

Now the Owls will focus on a game at home Tuesday against Weatherford, a team that is 13-1 and fighting with the Owls for a high seed in the 4A playoffs. While Weatherford is back at 13th, Jones knows that a victory over his Owls could ruin their chances of a good seed for the playoffs.
