Eagles soar to first win of season, 58-0
The Eisenhower Eagles finally tasted victory in the 2019 football season Friday night with a convincing 58-0 win over the Northwest Classen Knights.
The Eagles were impressive in all facets of the game, scoring with their offense and special teams units while dominating the Knights up front on the defensive end.
Junior quarterback Conner Collins was 9-13 on the evening for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Eagles also had five rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown. They also scored a safety on special teams for the final 58-0 total.
On the defensive end the Eagles held the Knights to 64 yards of total offense for the game.
The game started off slowly with both teams feeling out the other as both went three and out on their first possession.
On their second possession, the Eagles, who had done little early on running the ball, took to the air as Collins completed a 45-yard pass to junior wideout Marvin Blaze III, and another 32-yard completion to sophomore receiver Cory McClelland to set up the Eagles with first and goal at the Knights one yard line. One play later, senior running back Devante Moncrief plowed into the end zone to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
On the Knights next drive they were unable to do anything with the ball and they added insult to injury when the team’s long snapper snapped the ball a little too long and over the head of Knights’ punter Ruben DeLeon, the Eagles would recover the poor snap at the Knights’ three-yard line.
