Daniels paces Cache in 43-14 win over Anadarko
CACHE — After a demanding non-district slate, the Cache Bulldogs righted the ship as District 4A-1 play began with an impressive 43-14 win over Anadarko at Ulrich Stadium on Friday night.
“Yes, we had a rugged non-district schedule,” Cache Head Coach Faron Griffin said. “But we got a little arrogant after the first win (over 5A Altus) and it cost us against Marlow. We went back to the basics tonight, doing what’s good for us, running the ball. The offensive line did an outstanding job.”
To prove Griffin’s point, Cache took the game’s opening kickoff and marched 66 yards on nine plays and overcame a holding penalty on the first play from scrimmage. All but one play were on the ground and the one pass play onlly picked up five yards. Hunter Tate and Blake Young had runs of 16 and 20 yards respectively. Daniels ran five times for 34 yards including the final four for the TD. Ralph Fawaz booted the extra point to give Cache a 7-0 lead with 7:11 left in the first.
The Bulldogs’ ground game moved the ball up and down the field in the first half behind the running of Kynel Daniels. Daniels, a junior, carried nine times in the first quarter for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
“He’s gonna be special,” Griffin said. “He had a fumbling problem earlier, but he’s worked hard to stop that. He’s just going to get better.”
Anadarko was unable to move on its first possession, punting the ball back to the Bulldogs at the Warrior 40.
