Carl was born May 14, 1925, in Comanche, Texas, the son of James Edward and Laura Ray (Mantooth) Rush. At a young age, he and his family moved to Hominy, Okla. He began his education in Hominy at Sunset School, where he attended for 11 years and worked on the family farm. Carl and Wilma Magdalene Sells met in Hominy when he was 6 and she was 5. They were united in marriage in 1943 in Norman. They were married for 54 years; they were best friends and soul mates all their lives.
Then he enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 18 in 1943 for World War II. He also served on USS Ranger Air Craft carrier from 1964 to 1965. Off the South China sea, he would fly from USS Ranger to DA NAE, Vietnam, to help repair U.S. Navy planes. Carl retired from the Navy in 1973. Carl loved doing yard work, and he was very good at wood working; he could repair and replace anything from roofing to the foundation on his home. He loved to watch car racing and knew just about every car driver's name. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football. Best of all he enjoyed Wilma's cooking.
