Thomas Eugene Denton
HOBART Funeral for Thomas Eugene Denton, 75, Hobart, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at First Baptist Church, Hobart, under direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
Mr. Denton passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Hobart.
Interment will be in Hobart Rose Cemetery.
Tommy was born on June 16, 1942, to Thomas and Verdia Mae (Gibson) Denton in Wichita, Kan. He grew up and attended school in Hobart. He spent most of his adult life in the trucking business as owner and operator of the Hobart Stockyards in the late 1970s. Tommy also auctioneered in Snyder, Hobart, Cordell, Mangum, Carnegie and Apache. In the early 80s, Tommy worked in the car business in Altus and Hobart. He became Sheriff of Kiowa County in 1985 and served until 2003, he was the longest-running sheriff for Kiowa County. The most important thing in Tommy's life was his Lord and Savior and his family.
Tommy loved his family dearly. He also enjoyed race cars and teaching his boys how to work on cars, wheeling and dealing on anything he could make money on. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Denton, of the home; a son: Mark Lane Denton and wife Jan, Hobart; six grandchildren: Calli Looper and husband Ryan, Hobart, Cameron Walker and husband Seth, Hobart, Kyler Denton, Hobart, Danica Stevens and husband Chance, Blanchard, Lindsey Richards and husband Blaine, Hobart, Madison Denton, Hobart; a brother, Ronnie Denton, Del City; four great-grandchildren: Lakyn, Lexyn, Raelyn, Madden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Thomas (Bunkie) and Verdia Mae, 1 son; Thomas Kyle Denton (2010), sister & brother-in-law: Sandra & John Livesay, brother & sister-in-law: Kenneth Denton & wife Georgette, 1 sister-in-law: Polly Denton.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Washington Street Baptist Church Kitchen Fund or the Kiowa County Museum in his memory.
