Sharon (Sherry) Saxon-Crespo
Funeral for retired Sgt. Maj. Sharon (Sherry) Saxon-Crespo, 59, Elgin, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.
Sgt Maj Saxon-Crespo passed away after her bout with cancer on Monday, June 11, 2018, in Elgin with her husband, daughter and friends by her side.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born July 29, 1958, to Joe and Vivian Saxon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and was the fifth of five girls. Sharon grew up in Poughkeepsie until she joined the Army in 1977. She was honorably discharged in March of 1980 and moved to California to live with her sister Joanne. She then joined the Army Reserve in 1981 and worked several contract jobs until December 2008 when she was hired on as Civil Service at Fort Sill as a Computer Scientist performing as the Requirements Manager for the Software Engineering Center, Fires Division .
She retired from the Army Reserve in 2009 with 31 years service. Her final position as a reservist before she retired was the Bde. OPS. SGM for 4th Bde. 95th Div. She specialized in logistics in the reserve and received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal.
She married Felipe Juarez in 1983 and they divorced in 1999. She later married Victor J. Crespo on Oct. 1, 2014, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She enjoyed crocheting, golfing and traveling.
Sherry earned her Associates degree in Humanities from Duchess Community College in1982, two Bachelor Degrees from Cameron University, a Bachelors in Computer Science in 1990 and a Bachelors in Computer Information Systems in 2007 and her Masters of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University in 1994.
She is survived by her husband, of the home; her children: Sheila Daniels and husband Marcus, Locust Grove, Ga., Sabita Juarez and her son, Angel, Geronimo, and Joseph Juarez and his two sons, Jericho and Raiden, of Lawton; four sisters: Marge Leach, Gaithersburg, Md., Sandy Chrichton and husband Jim, Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; Joanne and her son Steven, Raleigh, N.C., and Linda Hoard and her husband Jose, Carey, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other family member and friends including
Terri Sloan, Donna Karpinski, Michelle Prescott and Stacy Ballou.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
