Lona Faye Young

Funeral for Lona Faye Young, 95, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017, at Liberty Heights Christian Church with her son-in-law, Chuck Pettigrew, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Lona Faye Young passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, in Lawton. 

She was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Haskell, Texas, to William Franklin and Ethel Lorena Prindle Klepper. She grew up in Canute, where her father was city marshal. She also lived in Anton and Lubbock, Texas, Oklahoma City and Fort Smith, Ark. She began keeping a diary in 1937 at the age of 14 and kept it for over 80 years. She married Grandville Lloyd Young on Sept. 9, 1939, in Farwell, Texas. He passed away April 8, 1980. 

Lona enjoyed playing songs that she wrote on the guitar, as well as playing the piano and a good game of dominoes with her daughter every Thursday. She loved TV shows such as "Wheel of Fortune," "Andy Griffith," Gene Autry Westerns, "The Waltons," "Little House on the Prairie" and "Lassie," among others. She also enjoyed writing and receiving letters, working crossword puzzles, researching her family genealogy and reminiscing about her childhood activities such as singing with her sister, Frances, playing baseball and roller skating. She always wanted a Model A and had the opportunity to ride in one just a few weeks ago.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Pettigrew, and husband, Chuck, of Lawton; sons: Ron Young of Edmond and Dale Young of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Cara Pettigrew of Oklahoma City; grandsons: Joshua and his wife, Masumi, of Japan and Jeromie Young; great-grandsons: Dylan, Shintaro and Kosei; a niece, Loretta Clissold of Athens, Ga.; great-niece, Terry Dent and her husband, Doug, of Athens, Ga.; cousins: Ozell Dugan of Canyon, Texas, and Florene Klepper of Oklahoma City. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Mary Frances Klepper; and her sister who lived to be age 100, Minnie Lee Farr.
