Danny A. Mietchen

Funeral for Danny A. Mietchen, 69, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Pettigrew, pastor, Liberty Heights Christian Church, officiating.

Mr. Mietchen died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018 in Lawton. 

Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Cemetery.

He was born June 18, 1949, in Lawton to Everett A. and Marion Anderson Mietchen.  He grew up in Lawton and was a 1967 graduate of Lawton High School.  

Danny was drafted in 1969 and entered service in the Navy on March 20. He was stationed on the USS Ashtabula (AO-51) and served in both the Philippines and Vietnam. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea) and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was honorably discharged on March 3, 1971.  

He married Jana K. Ramsey on Nov. 15, 1971, in Seymour, Texas.  Following his discharge he returned to Lawton and over his working career was employed as a union carpenter until going to work for Civil Service at Fort Sill with the Post Engineers. He assisted in the construction of Montego Bay, Lawton Central Mall and numerous hospitals and businesses throughout the Lawton-Fort Sill Area.  While with the Post Engineers he worked maintenance in several locations before retiring from the 434th Brigade in 2012.  

Survivors include his wife of 46 years; a daughter, Jennifer Killion and son-in-law, Court, Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, James, Claire and Kate Killion, Houston; his mother, of Lawton; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Jo Mietchen, Lawton; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Dennis Collins, Norman; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Pat Ramsey, Boise City,; his mother-in-law, Dovie Ramsey, Snyder; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

His father, a brother, Darrell, his father-in-law, Bill Ramsey, and a niece, Carla Tharp, preceded him in death.
