Harrington wins Coach of the Year
Lawton Public Schools is pleased to announce Eisenhower High School coach and athletic coordinator Bruce Harrington has claimed the 2015 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Oklahoma Coach of the Year award for boys basketball.
The prestigious honor comes on the heels of a 2015 state championship and the 2014-15 Oklahoma Coaches Association Region IV Coach of the Year award. Harrington is the sole state award winner in the sport of boys basketball, and one of only 537 recognized by the NFHS nationwide.
"This award was based on his contributions during the 2014-15 season," said Mike Whaley, Director of Officials for the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA). "He definitely stood out for winning a state championship but he has also had a tremendous career record; he is a great asset to the coaching profession in Oklahoma. Bruce Harrington has led a strong career of a positive nature in Lawton Public Schools, not only in winning basketball games but in other aspects of coaching that we believe are important too."
Members of the OSSAA, a member state association of the NFHS, were responsible for nominating award candidates. It is a tradition that dates back to 1982.
"I am just thankful to Lawton Public Schools for hiring me 32 years ago and allowing me to work at a job that has been enjoyable, challenging and rewarding," Harrington, who recently exceeded 400 victories, said. "I will always be thankful for the opportunity to have a job I love and for all the relationships with administration, faculty and students that I will always cherish."
