GNHA crew hits town for work, play
There are a good many smiles on the faces of the members of the Grand National Horseman's Association because Lawton's continued growth just offers more and more prime opportunities for entertainment during the evening hours after their competition in the arena.
Members are asking about the new restaurants, the new movie theatre (no it's not open just yet) and all the new places to shop. Yes, this is their time away from their farms and ranches and they want to enjoy every minute.
But the group is actually here for serious business, to determine the season champions in eight events, or games as they are called, in seven divisions.
Families will start rolling into the Fairgrounds this afternoon, eager to stake out the prime locations for their trailers and their horses.
Then on Monday at 5:30 p.m. board members, district directors and other members will gather for a rules meeting and then an executive board meeting at 6 p.m., when officers are elected.
Then Tuesday the opening ceremonies will be held at 8 a.m. with City of Lawton officials along with members of the Lawton Chamber of Commerce and Industry helping launch event. There will be one event on Tuesday, a 7 p.m. Cowboy Church service.
